East Central Reunion Jam 2009

The last contest or jam I participated in was back in 1993. Seems crazy that so much time has passed so quickly. Back then, during the 80s and early 90s, I would spend all day, almost every day, spinning around in the parking lot. The friends, events, and tricks from that time period make up so much of who I am to this day. It seemed a lot of other riders from that time period felt the same. A reunion was long overdue.

I worked with Dan Sirkin and Randy Loop during the months leading… Continue

Starting Over Again with a Modern Flatland Bike

I just bought a new bike. For almost a decade I’ve been riding an old Hoffman EP, and for almost a decade before that I was riding an old GT Pro Freestyle Tour. Since 1993 I haven’t really seen much progression in my riding. I’ve ridden consistently over the years about once a month, if that. Just enough to stay consistent with pretty much the same tricks I was doing back in 1993. Then something happened this past winter. I had lunch with a group of riders I hadn’t seen since probably 1993. And… Continue

Embarrassed at Woodward

Karl Elsass reminded me of this incident a while ago, and although it's best told in person I think it's worth writing here. And it includes a cameo appearance from Kip Williamson:

During the summer of 1988 I worked at Woodward as a flatland instructor and junior counselor (which simply meant that when we weren't riding I was washing dishes). Each week the instructors and visiting pros would get with the campers for a question and answer session. All the campers would sit on… Continue

Welcome to Elephant Glide!

Welcome to Elephant Glide! As you've probably figured out by now this is an online community of flatland freestylers, both old school and new school, a place where we can share our passion of spinning on our bikes in empty parking lots. And for those of you reading this who may not ride (e.g. my wife), the words "elephant glide" refer to a flatland trick, so you can stop wondering.

This site was inspired by a face-to-face reunion a few of us riders had in late 2008. It had been close… Continue

I don't remember a Lewis Gunther from Woodward. I do remember you washing a lot of dishes when you were not "counseling".

Do remember Frankie Arnwine? Any connection with him?

I will look for those photos we took. All is well here. Raising two kids in upstate New York. Coaching a lot of my sons sports teams. I don't think he knows what BMX is. That's my fault. Talk to,you soon.

Hi Andy. I absolutely remember you. You always reminded me of Robert Smith from the Cure. We spent a lot of time together at Camp Woodward in the summer of '88. Remember we took that photo class together? I think I still have some of those black and white photos stashed away around here.

I have been searching for a lot of you guys on the Internet over the past several years and all of a sudden this site popped up on Monday night. This is great. Wish I would have found this a few years back!

I don't ride anymore and I have not done a freestyle trick since June 10,1991. Went on to college and well that was it. I am surprised how many of you guys still ride! How do you find the time?

Love the site! Love reading some of the old stories. This is great Andy!
