Elephant Glide

A flatland freestyle reunion!

Who was at this contest and did anyone stay at the host hotel off of I-71? I think this is the contest that put the final nail in the coffin as far as host hotels refusing to be host hotels.

Who competed at the contest and do you remember your run?

I had just turned 16. There were close to 50 riders in the 16-18 expert class if I remember correctly. I was still riding my Decade Pro at this contest. I rode to some Cure song and I remember I was wearing these brown and black small checkered dress pants. I always wore the goofiest pants.

I think I remember most of my run. Bars backward forward side glide to steam roller to forward Karl kruzer. Fire hydrant to no-handed freak squeaks. One-handed bars backward hang 5 with other elbow on the grip (so sort of like a no-handed hang 5). This odd half-lash whip to half-lash combo. And I think I did a tomahawk to wheel chair. I may be wrong about some of these details, but these are the main tricks I was doing in my routines at the time.
Oh, I got like 15th place. I think I would've placed higher with different pants.
I sure did, I may have driven back North with Shmelvin that night. My run was not memorable, but I kinda remember it anyway. I don't have that trick list, but I found two with those photos. Red Addidas rugby shirt and Vision pants come to mind, but that may have been '87.
I was there for my first and only Masters. Don't remember my 16+ Intermediate run but do remember getting mistaken for someone better than me and signing autographs.
You do have one of those familiar faces.
I competed at this comp! It was my first and only MASTERS comp. I competed in 14-15 expert and got 6th place. Only the top 5 ended up advancing. In the finals Dave Mirra had a run off with Frankie Arnwine! Dave won! Dave and I still talk about that comp! He was the super little dude on the SKYWAY bike with a SKYWAY uniform. Hard to believe that comp was over 20 years ago! DAMN! I was also in the parking lot practicing when a crazy fight broke out in the parking lot. Rick Thorne was on the ground and talking mad shit to the guy who threw some punches. None of us knew who Rick Thorne was back then! He ended up having a bad crash riding in the ramps class the following day (Sunday).
My first and only Masters too. I think I tied with Kip because I remember being one spot away from the finals. Remember doing double opposite whiplash to spastic frontyard and a regular candybar whiplash to step over elephant glide, and hang five to forward karl to some other crap. Damn that was fun.
Oh yea I was sporting the HOT PINK Gt bars. I took 3rd behind those two.
Ah yes running down the hallway punching out ceiling tiles... saw it done didn't do it (much)
At the hotel I do remember someone changed a whole bunch of the room number signs on the doors so it was difficult to find your "real" room.
I wasn't at this comp but I recently saw one of the quarter pipe trailers used at this comp on ebay.

K
I think I was there...hehe
